8th World Cricket Festival comes to Nottingham, England

It is now just a few weeks away before the start of the 8th World Festival between 13th to 19th July 2014 to be held at Nottingham University using not only their cricket pitches, but the on campus facilities of  their Halls of  Residence, the East Midlands Conference Centre, and the brand new Ochard Hotel which is operated by the DeVere Hotel Group.

The Cricket & Fellowship
Whilst we cannot compete with the fantastic entertainment so generously provided by India IFCR at Vapi, we are planning to provide up to 5 days of cricket, comprising of mixed and national team matches played on 6 pitches, thus allowing for longer 35 over games and 2 x T20 matches each day (played at the same ground)

The Opening Ceremony will include an authentic Nottinghamshire Brass Band who will be playing the national anthems and an address by the legendary Faroak Engineer. On the Monday evening we will be hosted for a fellowship evening by the Rotary Club of Nottingham and the midweek party will feature the real-life Robin Hood and Maid Marian. The Final Night Party will be a special fun and fellowship occasion with music and dancing to suit all tastes - guaranteed to be remembered for years to come as the Convenor for these is our very own  ebullient Rupert Cox.

A ladies tour day featuring "Aunty Monica's Grand Day Out" and tours to historic houses and the magnificent English countryside including the famous Chatsworth House. On Wednesday there will be a variety of low cost trips around Nottingham with Robin Hood, or a trip to the famous Test Ground at Trent Bridge or the bat manufacturer, Gunne & Moore. Please let us know as soon as possible which tours you would like to join.

Accommodation will be either in the University's Halls of Residence, or the DeVere Orchard Hotel, adjacent to the East Midlands Conference Centre. The Halls of  Residence are adjacent to the Hotel thus ensuring that the Hotel will be the Fellowship HQ for us all.

Two Halls of Residence will be used, one with shared facilities, one with ensuite facilities, there is no Hall of Residence that has a mix of  shared and ensuite accommodation.

The new £20million DeVere Orchard Hotel has rooms that are either double or twin bedded, again additional beds cannot be fitted in to the room apart from baby's cots. The rooms have an ironing board and iron and the hotel also offers a laundry service at additional cost. It is not DeVere policy to have fridges in the rooms. The website for the hotel is http://www.deverevenues.co.uk/locations/east-midlands-conference-centre-and-hotel/orchard-hotel.html

Remember that the package prices do not include the following:

1) Transport to and from the Nottingham IFCR Festival venue from Airports, etc. The UK has many Airports that IFCR members could be arriving at thus to include transport costs in the package is not possible. One of the reasons for choosing Nottingham is its central location and excellent rail and road links as well as being very close to East Midlands and Birmingham Airport. Nottingham Railway Station is connected to the University campus by public bus services and is only a short taxi ride. We will of course assist incoming IFCR members in planning their travel as much as possible and making arrangements where possible on receipt of payments up front. As an example currently coach costs from Heathrow to Nottingham for 35 people is £600 each way, a return train ticket fro Heathrow to Nottingham is from £66.

2) Team Cricket Kit, Pads, bats, gloves etc - If these have not already been booked, then you will have to make your own arrangements

3) Any cricket clothing other than a souvenir cricket cap and something suitable for the ladies - so please bring your own cricket clothing!

4) Any meals other than those provied at the events listed above, and breakfast provided within the accomodation package. If you have NOT ordered lunch for the crciekt matches, you will need to make your own arrangements. The hotel will be available for meals/snacks on the evenings that functions are not planned but  the city centre is only a few minutes away by Taxi or public transport and has a diverse range of eating establishments that will cater for everybody's dietary wishes.

5) Drinks at the events - although we will endeavour to provide where possible
