IFCR GB&I News

Events for 2010

After visits from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa in the last four years, there will be no touring sides visiting GB this year.  GB members will get together for the annual "home festival", this year in Hampshire, around 4 - 7 July.  Matches will be arranged, and IFCR members will have the use of a hospitality box for a day at the Rosebowl during Hampshire's home County Championship match.

The AGM will be held during the Festival.  Details to follow.

Forthcoming Tours & Festivals

So far, no tours are being planned fro winter 2010/2011.   In 2011/12 there will be the Seventh World Festival of Cricket, to be held in Vapi,  India 19-25 February.  This is a little earlier than normal, but is expected to coincide with a member of the Rotary Club of Vapi holding the position as President of Rotary International.

Vapi is located within easy driving distance north of Mumbai.  The hosts are promising a fabulous event.  Details, with video and literature, will be published in due course.

IFCR Sixth World Festival of Cricket, Durban, South Africa 7 – 12 March 2010

IFCR GB&I were well represented at the Sixth World Festival, in Durban, taking a squad of eighteen, with ten wives/partners and supporters, including several new members.  The Festival was most enjoyable.  Full details and photos will appear soon.  The team played four matches, winning against South Africa in the final match, but losing out to Indian and Australian opposition in others.  Age is telling against the GB&I team, especially against the much younger Rotarians from the sub-continent.

The Rotary Ashes 2009

"The Rotary Ashes" teams at Harbourne

The Australian Rotary party toured the UK from 16 June until 11 July.  There were many new tourists among the party, and their performances on the field were such that they won all but one game, the exception being a surprise defeat by the North of Scotland team at Forfar.  They very comfortably beat the GB&I team for the Rotary Ashes at Harbourne, Birmingham on Tuesday 23 June.

The match at Harbourne coincided with the RI Conference in Burmingham, so many IFCR members from all parts of the world helped out at the IFCR stand at the Conference, and came to Harbourne to participate in a match against another GB&I team.

The Aussies' venture north of the border, for the first time, coincided with the best of the summer, and their visit was much enjoyed by the hosts in the two venues in Scotland
